Penney, the SST Governing Board, and others.

Hosted by Sales Tax Buzz’s creator and writer, Althea Azeff, JD, six panelists were asked six questions concerning one of the most talked about national bills, even before its introduction to Congress.

The distinguished participants include R. Bruce Johnson, a Commissioner with the Utah State Tax Commission; Stephen P. Kranz, a partner at D.C. law firm Sutherland and President of the Advisory Council to the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board; Fredrick J. Nicely, tax counsel with COST (Council on State Taxation) and formerly with the Ohio Department of Taxation; Rory Rawlings, a CPA and founder of Avalara, who holds four patents related to sales tax technology; Warren D. Townsend, Senior Director, Specialty Tax for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. who serves as a strategic planning committee member for COST; and Wayne Zakrzewski, Vice President and Associate General Counsel for tax for J.C. Penney Company, Inc.

“Not only is our company’s founder an expert and sales tax automation pioneer,” said Scott McFarlane, co-founder and chief executive officer of Avalara, “He has also been at the forefront of the developing Internet sales tax debate from the technology perspective” McFarlane adds.

SalesTaxBuzz.org was established to facilitate ongoing discussion on issues relating to transactional taxes including sales and use tax, VAT, and other government-imposed levies. Since its inception in January 2009, Azeff’s Sales Tax Buzz has attracted a sizable following.
